GREAT START TO THE SEASON FOR UGRAN IN MISANO
The first of seven meetings in the Italian FIA Formula 4 Championship took place at the Misano World Circuit near Rimini (I). With 22 competitors present for the meeting, their expectations were as high as could be ahead of the start.
QUALIFYING
Friday, 31/07/20, 18.20 – 19.30, Weather: Sunny, 31°C
The rules allow for two qualifying sessions of 15 minutes, with a 10-minute break in between. The Qualifying 1 times determine the grid for Race 1 and the times from Qualifying 2 determine the grid for Race 2. The starting order for Race 3 is based on the 2nd best lap time of each driver in either of the two qualifying sessions.

RACE ONE (30 MINUTES + 1 LAP)
Saturday, 01/08/20, 14.30, Weather: Sunny, 32°C
The first race of the season started in the blazing afternoon heat. The front drivers of the field managed to get well through the first corners. There were some contacts a little further back. Piotr, who had made a good start to his very first race in a formula racing car, was involved in a collision in a corner and lost his rear wing. He made it back into the pits, but unfortunately his race was already over with this! It was also his first start in this category for Jasin, and he also got away well. He aimed to get used to racing conditions in a formula car and didn’t risk too much. His lap times were good and in the end he overtook the car in front. He reached the finish in good 15th position. Filip got off to a good start and started chasing the front runners. He soon overtook Montoya and took 4th place. Soon after, he changed positions with Formaroli more than once, but then could make it stick. Flip was now in third place and pursuing Pizzi for 2nd. In a great move he got past Pizzi, but was then too late on the brakes in one of the next corners. He went off track and Pizzi didn’t need another invitation to get past again. Filip managed to get back on track again and filed in in 3rd place. There was no longer enough time to try another attack. Filip had a brilliant start to the season by securing the third podium position.

RACE TWO (30 MINUTES + 1 LAP)
Sunday, 02/08/20, 09.50, Weather: Sunny, 29°C
Filip also got well underway at the start to the second race. From 5th position he immediately improved to 3rd place. He then managed to overtake Pizzi and was now 2nd. After a few laps, Filip had positioned himself to attack the leader of the race, Rosso. This failed and Filip lost several places. Back again in 5th place he worked his way forward, yet again overtook Mini and Pizzi and saw the checkered flag in excellent 2nd position. Jasin certainly had bigger plans for his second race in this category. He made a good start, and this time he didn’t hesitate to overtake his competitors. He managed a good overtaking maneuver almost every lap and improved his position until the very good 11th place. Piotr was also more successful in his second race in Formula 4. He stayed away from incidents and also managed a few overtaking maneuvers. Piotr reached the finish line in good 16th place.

RACE THREE (28 MINUTES + 1 LAP)
Sunday, 02/08/20, 18.00, Weather: Sunny, 29°C
It was still very hot on Sunday evening when the third race was started. To drive the race on old tyres required once again full concentration from the young drivers. Filip drive well in the first laps and improved by two places to fourth. The top four drivers raced consistently fast and Filip achieved very fast lap times towards the end of the race. He then got closer to Beganovic, but there wasn’t enough time for an attack. But also fourth place finally rounded off a very good race weekend for Filip. He showed his pace and already collected many valuable points. Jasin did not get away at the start and fell far behind. It took a few laps for him to find his rhythm and then start to fight for places again. In the end was able to recover up to 16th place. Piotr got well under way and made up a few places at first. Then he was wrapped up in a long fight with Cenyu and finally reached the finish line in 19th place. Jasin and Piotr diligently gained experience on this first race weekend and cannot wait to start again soon.
The second race meeting of the Italian Formula championship is scheduled for the weekend of 30th August in Imola (I).
